INSTRUCTIONS FOR FILING FOR HOMESTEAD EXEMPTION

Complete all areas that are blank, and answer all questions on the application.

Please list your name(s) as it appears on your deed.
Please list last name, (first) middle name or initial, first name (last)
Example: Smith, John & Mary

Legal Description can be taken from your deed. Example: Land Lot No. ____ , _____ District ____Section, Lot No. _____.

Parcel I. D.: If you do not know your parcel identification number, you can leave this area blank, and we will place it on the application upon receipt.

Sign, date and list a daytime phone number where you can be reached in the event we have questions.

Attach a copy of your driver´s license, and your recorded warranty deed.  If you have not yet received your recorded warranty deed, attach a copy of your settlement statement from your closing as proof of ownership of your property or you may look up your recorded warranty deed on the
Forsyth County Clerk of Superior Court Index Site.

Deadline to file the application is MARCH 1. Any application received after this date will not be processed until the next tax year.

If you wish a receipt, please send a self-addressed, stamped envelope, and our office will send verification of receipt of your application.

In order to qualify for homestead exemption, you must have been the owner of the property on January 1 of the year you are making application. If you purchased your property after January 1, 2006, you would not be eligible for the exemption until January 1, 2007.

We strongly recommend that if you are over the age of 62, that you do NOT use this online process. There are several exemptions that are available, if you qualify, and each of these exemptions require a different application, along with other supporting documents. We suggest that you call or come by our office to check for eligibility to assure that you will be receiving the best exemptions available.
